Atalanta BC and Juventus, both 1-0 winners in midweek, square up on Sunday with just one point separating them in the Serie A rankings.
While La Dea triumphed in Verona, Juve eked out a shaky victory over Lecce at home, bringing them to within two points of the Milan clubs who are currently leading the league.
Atalanta vs Juventus
The following Italian Serie A game will take place on Sunday between Atalanta and Juventus. The two teams on the standings are only separated by one point, with Juventus in third place sitting above Atalanta in fourth. Four of their six league victories have resulted in Atalanta collecting 12 points.
They are three behind league leaders Inter, but that might alter by the time they play. The hosts have won their last three games without giving up a goal. On Wednesday, Gian Piero Gasperini’s team defeated Verona 1-0 away from home. La Dea will be confident of winning because they have an undefeated record at home this year.
The previous time Juventus was on the road, they lost their first defeat of the year. This was a 4-2 loss last weekend against Sassuolo. However, Massimiliano Allegri’s team recovered in midweek and won 1-0 at home against Lecce. The victory kept their early title challenge on track and brought them to within two points of first place.
Juventus has now won all four of their encounters with Atalanta. The previous time they visited Bergamo, they prevailed 2-0, and they will come here certain that they can take home the victory.
Verdict
This season, Atlanta has performed admirably, winning five out of seven games in all competitions. They have scored at least one goal in every game thus far, and we can expect them to score against any Serie A team at Gewiss Stadium. In their three home victories over Monza, Rakow (in the Europa League), and Cagliari, they have excelled at home, outscoring their opponents 7:0.
However, to be fair, those clubs aren’t even close to being as excellent as Juventus. They did manage to keep their net intact in all three home games.
Juventus also had a very good start to the season and, just like Atalanta, scored in all games this season. But on the road, Juventus showed significant problems defensively in the previous game versus Sassuolo, where they lost 4:2. Taking that last road game into account, we highly doubt they can keep a clean sheet vs. in-form Atlanta.
We have seen both teams scoring in two of the last three h2h games. The recent form lines also indicate this will not be a stale affair with Atalanta hitting multiple goals in all three of their home games in all competitions while Juve have struck at least twice in all three of their Serie A road trips.
They looked good going forward in last week’s 4-2 upset loss against Sassuolo with the pairing of Dusan Vlahovic and Federico Chiesa showing their chemistry again, but elsewhere the team can look pretty ordinary.
