Monchengladbach has had an especially bad start to the season at home, losing all three of their Bundesliga games. In contrast, they only dropped four of their 17 home games the previous year.
They should, however, view this match as a perfect chance to win their second straight league game, given that Mainz are now on a four-game losing run. With no victories in their last 11 league games since last April, Mainz enters this encounter at the bottom of the standings with just one point from six games played.
Mainz has dropped five of their past six away games, losing four of those defeats by a score of at least three goals.
The home-and-away record, which shows Mainz unbeaten in their past five games against Monchengladbach, including in their last three travels to this site, will give the visitors confidence.
However, considering their current state, it is difficult to have much faith that Mainz will reverse their recent string of unfavorable results.
