Mauricio Pochettino will make his much-anticipated return to Tottenham Hotspur on Monday night when his Chelsea team travels across the capital to play their London rivals in a thrilling Premier League match. Two Fridays ago, the Lilywhites defeated Crystal Palace 2-1 to hold their top spot, and the Blues defeated Blackburn Rovers 2-0 in the middle of the week to advance to the EFL Cup quarterfinals.

Last Friday night’s hard-fought 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace by Spurs maintained their incredible start to the season, and it reminded me of my Selhurst Park selection. With their most recent victory, Ange Postecoglou’s club is still one of just two in the Premier League this season that have not experienced a loss.
On Monday night, when they return to their north London base, Tottenham will aim to defeat city rival Chelsea in order to hold onto the top spot in the standings. The Blues were knocked back to earth with a 2-0 loss to Brentford on Saturday, just when it looked like they were finally getting their act together following a slow start to the season.
With eight victories and two draws from the first 10 games of the season, Tottenham is presently alone at the top of the Premier League standings under former Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou.
Spurs’ most recent victory came last Friday when they defeated Crystal Palace 2-1 away from home. Son Heung-Min, who scored another goal in the aforementioned victory at Selhurst Park, is content with his position as the starting central striker. He now has eight goals in ten league games.
As a result, Mauricio Pochettino will be facing his previous employers, as Chelsea is currently mired in the 11th position in the Premier League standings.
Verdict
For a few years, Chelsea dominated this matchup and went nine games without losing against their London rivals from the beginning of 2019 until the end of the previous campaign.
However, Spurs turned the tide last year, winning both of their league games and, given their present form, they appear well-positioned to defeat Chelsea for the second time in succession.
Spurs should be able to secure all four points because they are playing a Chelsea team that struggled against Brentford the previous time around and has won their last four games in all competitions.
With just ten games played, Postecoglu’s team has amassed 26 points, winning eight and drawing two. They have been incredibly steady. Spurs’ only road losses came in 2-2 draws at Brentford and Arsenal.
In contrast, Chelsea’s season has started somewhat poorly under former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino. The Blues have only accrued 12 points from ten EPL games, placing them in 11th place.
The Londoners have gained some momentum recently, winning four of their past six games and just losing one. The Blues have now won their last two away EPL games against Fulham and Burnley after winning just two of their previous sixteen away games from October 2022 to September of this year.
