On Wednesday, Fiorentina and West Ham square off in the second-ever Europa Conference League final at Fortuna Arena in Prague. This hasn’t been a fantastic season for West Ham because they’ve spent a lot of it fighting relegation. They have more than made up for it, though, as they get up for their first continental final since 1976 thanks to their European trip.
With so much at stake, the comparatively small arena is anticipated to have a tight atmosphere. Both teams will feel optimistic about winning their first European trophy in more than 50 years during this great event. This is what we expect to happen.
Fiorentina vs West Ham
The Hammers’ lone European championship title returned in the 1965 Cup Winners’ Cup, but they fell short in the championship match 11 years later. This is a historic occasion for David Moyes and his side because the 1980 FA Cup final was when they last won a trophy.
However, they have advanced through Europe without coming up against any teams from the top five leagues in the continent. On Wednesday, that will change when they take the field against a Fiorentina team that has shown success in knockout soccer thus far this season.
While Fiorentina narrowly missed qualifying for Europe in Serie A, they have fared much better in cup play this year. La Viola hopes to join Roma as the other Italian champion of this competition after Inter Milan defeated them in the Coppa Italia final last month.
La Viola showed grit in the semi-finals, coming from behind to eliminate Basel in extra time after losing the first leg 2-1 at home. The last two rounds have been challenging for the Italian team. In the quarterfinals against Lech Poznan at home, they let a 3-0 lead slip away before scoring twice in the final 12 minutes to advance.
Verdict
It’s challenging to pick one side as the winner between these two clubs because both of these teams performed admirably to go to the Conference League final. Fiorentina had a mixed record of late, losing two, winning four, and drawing one of their last seven games, while West Ham had a record of four wins and three losses in their previous seven games.
We anticipate a close and difficult opening 90 minutes on Wednesday because neither team has much experience playing in European championships and hasn’t won a trophy since the 1960s.
Even though we anticipate a close game, we do not anticipate a lack of goals. You can understand why we are betting on goals at both ends of the field in Wednesday’s Conference League final given that both clubs have scored in six of Fiorentina’s past seven games as well as three of West Ham’s last five games.
Due to the Hammers’ dominance in this league, we anticipate a dramatic final with plenty of goals and cards. With nothing to discern between the two sides, we’re betting on both teams to score because it appears likely that extra time and penalties will be needed.
