Sparta Rotterdam won their last two games against FC Groningen and FC Utrecht by scores of 0-5 and 1-2, respectively, before falling to FC Utrecht by a score of 0-1. In their previous six home Eredivisie games, the Castle Lords had won five and drawn one. They lost two games while scoring 17 goals and giving up 11 goals.
Twente is in a fantastic position going into this next matchup as they have won their last three games straight. Before SC Heerenveen was destroyed in a 1-2 victory, Ajax was left behind in a 3-1 victory. The most recent victim of Twente’s 4-0 victory was SC Heerenveen. In their previous six away games in the Eredivisie, the visitors had four victories. In the six games, they won once and drew twice, scoring 13 goals and giving up only two.
Verdict
In their two prior meetings earlier in the season, the two teams were unable to separate themselves, and Thursday’s opening leg may provide another closely contested match.
Twente has a better recent record and has won each of their previous three away games, but we think Sparta Rotterdam will perform well enough to maintain their lead before the rematch on Sunday.
The first goal has been scored by Sparta Rotterdam in six of their past 10 games. Twente has scored the opening goal in seven of their last ten road games, so don’t discount their potential. With an amazing record of five victories without a goal conceded, with that we need to keep these figures in mind.
