The Champions League final this weekend will feature Manchester City and Inter Milan.
The largest club match in football history will be played in Istanbul, and City will be competing to win the trophy for the first time and complete the fabled Treble. Given City’s terrifying dominance, Inter Milan enters the game with absolutely no expectations. Which may work to their advantage as they attempt to win the European Cup for a fourth time.
Manchester City vs Inter Milan
The Citizens advanced to the finals by defeating Real Madrid 5-1 overall, while Inter Milan defeated AC Milan’s neighbors 3-0 overall to advance.
The campaign Manchester City is running will be remembered. Some even assert that they may not have a better chance to win the Champions League in the future if they don’t accomplish so this year. The majority of the Premier League season saw Pep Guardiola’s team behind Arsenal, but their late-season form was too much for the Gunners to handle.
The Manchester City citizens won eleven straight league games, which was enough for them to win the Premier League with three games remaining and win their third trophy in three years. After defeating Manchester United last weekend to win the FA Cup, City is now headed for a trifecta. Manchester United now holds the record for a treble by an English team.
Inter Milan, on the other hand, won the Serie A title in the 2020–21 season but only managed to come second and third in the past two seasons, respectively. I Nerazurri shouldn’t be disregarded, either, since they have been outstanding in the latter weeks of the season as well, winning 10 of their past eleven games.
The Black and Blues have a long history in this sport and have won three titles, so they will be confident they can succeed once more.
Right now, Manchester City is capable of defeating any European football team. In the second leg of their semifinal, Pep’s team thoroughly outperformed Real Madrid, the club with the most Champions League victories. Los Blancos only mustered three shots on goal, compared to eight for City and four goals.
In their own semifinal, Inter Milan outperformed Milan by triumphing both at home and away. But no one is wagering that they can defeat Man City on Saturday night in Istanbul to win the Champions League trophy, as far as we can tell.
Having said that, the Cityzens have made mistakes, notably at the rear. In all competitions, they have given up in six of their last seven away from the Etihad and in 11 of their last 17 overall. Their lone away Champions League victory this year came against Sevilla way back in September.
Inter Milan has scored in 16 of their last 17 games in all competitions since breaking out of a slump in March, and they’ve netted nine goals in six knockout matches this season. Betting on both teams to score on Saturday seems like a good idea given Manchester City’s defensive shortcomings.
