10-08-23 Daily Football Predictions: Olympiacos vs Genk

Betting Tips

Unquestionably one of the matches of the round, Olympiacos and Genk will face a stern battle in their Europa League third qualifying round matchup on Thursday. Olympiacos will compete in their first match of the year. Genk has already been eliminated from the Champions League. Olympiacos has every opportunity to compete at the top level of European football because they’ve become accustomed to winning Greek championships in previous years. The Red Whites were only able to finish third in the 2022–23 season, though.

Olympiacos vs Genk

The hosts’ season the previous year was somewhat tumultuous, and they failed to successfully defend their championship as four different managers were in control. Olympiacos has had a mixed off-season, most recently losing a friendly match at Carrow Road to English team Norwich City by a score of 2-0. Former Espanyol manager Diego Martinez has been named Olympiacos’ next manager. The Spaniard will take command for the first time in a competitive match on Thursday’s continental match.

In a nail-biting season finale, Genk of Belgium lost the championship the previous year. They were ahead of Antwerp and were seconds away from winning the championship until Antwerp scored a goal in stoppage time to take it.

Genk, on the other hand, has had a rocky start to its campaign and will want to make things right. They drew 1-1 in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League qualifiers against Servette of the Jupiler Pro League and 2-2 in the second, but lost on penalties and were eliminated from contention for the competition.

The home team Olympiacos Piraeus has a strong reputation. Olympiacos had the most goals scored in the league last season with 43 (2.4 goals per game), losing only twice in 18 league games while finishing third overall. Given that they scored 16 fewer goals on the road than at home, we can clearly see how crucial their home field is. They rely significantly on their home field, therefore getting a win (and scoring) is crucial. On the other side, their defensive line hasn’t shown much in the preseason. In all five of their friendly games, they failed to keep a clean sheet.

With 88 goals scored in 40 games (2.2 goals per game), Genk had the greatest offensive record in the Jupiler Pro League last season. In both the preseason and the regular season, they continued to put on strong offensive performances. They scored 22 goals in 10 games (six friendly) and kept their average of 2.2 goals per game from the previous season. They only failed to score once in the 10 games—in the previous game against Eupen—but they certainly deserved at least one or two goals given their astounding 28-goal attempts.

The most recent outcome for Olympiacos ended their eight-game winning streak. They have only suffered one competitive home loss this season. Genk, on the other hand, has only won two of their last seven games and is currently on a streak of consecutive losses. They may perceive defeat because of recent road struggles.
