A thrilling contest could be on the cards as Roma host Bayer Leverkusen in their Europa League semi-final first leg. While a closely fought encounter is expected here. Roma has experience at this stage of European competition and should have the edge at home.
Juventus vs Sevilla
Juventus had several issues off the field this season, but they were strong if we focus simply on their performance. The home side should participate in the Champions League the following year, barring any UEFA sanctions.

The previous four times Sevilla has been to the final four of this competition, they have won the tournament, doing so in 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2020. However, given their difficulties traveling throughout Europe this season, they face a difficult road to the final.
Verdict
Juventus have never been beaten at home in the Europa League since the rebrand in 2009, while they’ve won four of their last five games in this competition. The Italian giants were in a terrible position after falling out of the Champions League, but they’ve improved to sit second in Serie A and emerge as serious threats in Europe’s second competition.
Juventus head into this clash having won their last two games and after beating Freiburg and Sporting in their last two home games in Europe they look good for a win. For all Sevilla’s European success, they’ve failed to win any of their three trips in this season’s knockouts, losing at PSV and Fenerbahce before United blew a 2-0 lead against them in the last round to draw 2-2.
Juventus have a solid defense. They allowed only six goals in the last eight matches in all competitions. Also, Juventus went under 2.5 goals in seven of the previous eight games. Most of Sevilla’s games away from home finish with a low number of goals. They went under 2.5 goals in five of the previous six road games.

Roma vs Bayer Leverkusen
Leverkusen will play host to Roma on Thursday for the opening leg of their Europa League semifinal match. Roma is currently in poor form.
With four games without a victory, Jose Mourinho’s team has slipped to seventh place in Serie A; however, with two games remaining before the competition’s conclusion, the I Giallorossi still have a chance to qualify for the Champions League, as the winners of the Europa League are guaranteed the top seeding for the following season’s competition.
These two teams are vying for a spot in the top four of their respective competitions; Bayer is now sixth. Roma has stalled since being hurt, while the visitors have rallied to join the European race.
The hosts have lost four straight games and most recently fell to Inter Milan 2-0. They take on a Leverkusen team that has won four of their past five games played in Europe, including victory at Union Saint-Gilloise, Ferencvaros, and Monaco.
In Europe, tourists frequently make hasty starts when traveling. In their first knockout game in Monaco, they scored within 13 minutes, and in their next two matches, they did so within three minutes. For a defensive team like Roma, who frequently feel out matches, that is a nightmare.
Verdict
Although Roma’s recent form has begun to wane, we still think they can win, at least in the first leg where they will have the support of their fans. They have won nine of their last ten contests at the Olimpico, after all.
Leverkusen has also struggled since the draw, with just two victories in their previous five games, including a loss to Koln on Friday night. The fact that they will be playing in a hostile environment at the Olimpico further favors Jose Mourinho’s team in this match.
Although both teams have exhibited signs of weakness since the last round of the Europa League, we still anticipate at least one of them to blank in front of the net when they face off. When playing at home, Roma has a solid defensive record, whereas only one of Leverkusen’s last five away games has seen goals in both halves.
It’s unlikely that this stat combination will result in a game with few goals scored, especially when you consider Mourinho’s likely strategy for stopping this competent footballing Leverkusen team.
