Betting Tips
On Monday night, Union will go to Newell’s Old Boys to make it four straight victories in the Argentine Primera Division. At the Estadio Marcelo Alberto Bielsa, two teams in the LPA go head-to-head.
Newell Old Boys vs Union Santa Fe
Six-time Primera Division champions Newell’s Old Boys’ most recent triumph came in 2013, but they have struggled to make an impression since then, placing 21st, 15th, 10th, 19th, and 11th over the course of their previous five seasons.
With seven victories, six draws, and six losses from their first 19 games of the season, Gabriel Heinze’s team is now in 11th place in the standings with 27 points.
Defensa y Justicia, who are now in ninth position, are only three points behind Newell’s Old Boys, who will enter this match with a four-game unbeaten streak, three of which have been victories.
Union, on the other hand, will come into this game off of a run of three straight league victories, defeating Central Cordoba SdE, Huracan, and Gimnasia La Plata. In their last three games, Gustavo Munua’s team has preserved a clean sheet, and it has been nearly a month since their last loss in Argentina’s top division.
Despite their recent improvement, El Tate is still ranked 27th in the table, but they are currently only three points behind Independiente in the 20th position and would undoubtedly move up the division if their good form continues. The fact that Union is currently near the bottom of the standings is not surprising given that the squad returned to Argentina’s top division in 2014 and finished 12th and 22nd in their most recent campaigns.
Verdict
After a much-needed streak of three straight LPA victories, Santa Fe arrives in Rosario. Having lost all nine of their prior league contests, astonishingly. Before their most recent three-game winning streak, Union had won just two of their previous 25 league contests.
However, they should anticipate a difficult test on Monday because Newells has also been performing well lately. The host team at the Estadio Marcelo Alberto Bielsa has now won four of their past five games while maintaining a strong defensive record with clean sheets in each of those five games.
In fact, under 2.5 goals have been scored in 19 of Newell’s last 21 home games, which is a remarkable statistic. Their home games have been routinely low-scoring over the past year. Amazingly, only one of the 21 games included goals from both clubs, indicating that Rosario’s matchup will likely be close and low-scoring.
Each of their last seven games saw under 2.5 goals scored, and none of those games included both teams scoring. Recent matchups between these teams have similarly proven to be low-scoring affairs. In their last five games, Newell’s have won three by a score of 1:0, and we think that pattern will hold here.
In the end, considering those numbers, we feel confident choosing under 2.5 goals, while BTTS-NO appears solid even though it is not one of our top choices.
