Leeds United host Liverpool at Elland Road on Monday night. Once one of the most prestigious fixtures in the English calendar when the sides were challenging one another for the title in the 1960s and 70s, very different priorities will be at play on Monday.
Leeds is looking for the points to lift them clear of the relegation zone, while Liverpool is hoping a win will spark a late push for an increasingly unlikely top-four finish.
Leeds vs Liverpool
Monday night’s Premier League match between Liverpool and Leeds at Elland Road brings the weekend’s action to a close.
Last time out, Jurgen Klopp’s team played Arsenal in an exciting 2-2 draw; after a slow start, they recovered to mount a late push that may have resulted in a victory. Here, a far better beginning is necessary. Liverpool will be eager to exploit a Leeds defense that allowed five goals to Crystal Palace last weekend, a result that thrust them back into the middle of the relegation fight.
Leeds will be attempting to beat Liverpool on Monday night when they return to their home ground in an effort to restart their battle for survival.
The Reds’ home and away performances are complete opposites, as was demonstrated last weekend when they rallied from two goals down to tie with league-leading Arsenal. With nine rounds of games remaining, Liverpool is effectively in a no man’s land as they are 12 points outside of the highly desired top four spots.
Verdict
Leeds are just about keeping their necks above water near the foot of the Premier League table, however, their dismal 5-1 reverse at home to Crystal Palace last time out was a real confidence-knocker, and a stronger Liverpool outfit could take advantage of their vulnerable hosts at Elland Road. The Reds have a point to prove, and they were unlucky to have only drawn with leaders Arsenal last weekend. With quality players returning from injury, Jurgen Klopp’s side should have too much firepower for Leeds. With that in mind, a Liverpool victory is in the works.
The ease at which the Leeds defense was pulled apart by a rampant Palace side last weekend would have alarmed new manager Javi Gracia, though an even-more formidable Liverpool frontline could do more damage against the Yorkshiremen’s watery backline. Leeds’s last five assignments in the league have averaged 4.8 goals per 90 minutes, and their penchant for producing chaotic contests should ensure that action is plentiful again on Monday,

Fiorentina vs Atalanta
Fiorentina finished seventh in the previous season and earned its first trip to Europe since the 2016–17 campaign. The home side excelled in the Europa Conference League despite being absent from European tournaments for some seasons and may be the favorite to win the league.
In the early going of the season, Atalanta excelled in Serie A. After the first ten rounds, they were in second position, and after 20 games, they were in fourth, which earned them a spot in the Champions League the following year.
However, as the season went on, they gradually began to fall in the standings; as a result, they are currently in sixth place, closely followed by Juventus, Bologna, and Fiorentina.
Verdict
Fiorentina has been in a winning streak for a while; their 13-match run across all competitions included 11 triumphs. A victory against the erratic Atalanta team in Florence on Monday night would bring La Viola’s lead over the visitors down to just four points. Four of La Dea’s last seven league games have ended in losses, and our opening Fiorentina vs. Atalanta prediction predicts that they will lose this one as well.
On Monday at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, there might not be much activity because we’re diving into the goal markets. Fiorentina have recently relied on their defense as a base for success, and as a result, six of their previous eight Serie A games have had fewer than 2.5 goals scored in them. Atalanta, on the other hand, has failed to register in four of their previous six games, so this week’s margins may not be wide.
Tip: Fiorentina to Win/ Under 2.5
