20-06-23 Daily Football Predictions : Iceland vs Portugal

Betting Tips

Portugal takes a flight to Reykjavik to face Iceland at Laugardalsvollur on Tuesday night. Portugal is yet to drop a point or even concede a goal in Group J of the Euro 2024 qualifying round. In their most recent match, the Selecao easily defeated Bosnia & Herzegovina 3-0, while the hosts lost to Slovakia 2-1 at home.

Iceland vs Portugal

Iceland, the smallest country to qualify for the World Cup, is no longer a team that placed eighth at Euro 2016 and advanced to the 2018 tournament. They weren’t quite as good as they were in recent years, and they had a shaky start to the EURO 2024 Qualifiers with just three points after three games. These three points came against Liechtenstein, one of the poorest teams in Europe.

One of the top teams in both Europe and the world is Portugal. Although they performed admirably at the World Cup and fell to Morocco in the quarterfinals, they deserved to win and place among the best four teams. They currently have a 13:0 goal differential in these EURO Qualifiers after winning three of the first three games. They should win the majority of games because they are by far the best team in the group.

The fact that Bruno Fernandes does not have to play against Bosnia’s troops every week will undoubtedly be appreciated by them, as the Manchester United playmaker stole the show during an easy three-goal victory on Saturday.

Fernandes assisted Bernardo Silva in scoring with an inch-perfect through ball after Cristiano Ronaldo had a header disallowed for offside. He then added a brace of his own in the second half with a thunderous header and beautiful half-volley to extend Martinez’s outstanding start.

Both sides have scored in each of the nations’ three previous meetings, and Portugal and Iceland are no strangers to one another. In fact, the hosts famously held their Iberian counterparts to a 1-1 draw in the Euro 2016 group stage before Fernando Santos led the Selecao to continental glory.

Verdict

This week, in front of their home supporters, Iceland, who are still getting used to Hareide, should be the next victims of Portugal’s ferocious attack and tenacious defense. Martinez’s team’s performance against tougher competition remains to be seen, but for the time being, the Selecao should maintain their unblemished start and inch closer to a spot in next year’s championships.

Iceland has lost three of its last four games, and in each of those defeats to opponents that were significantly inferior to Portugal, they have given up at least two goals. They clearly struggle defensively, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they gave up three goals or more in this match.

However, they have at least one goal in seven of their past eight home games, so their attacking performance isn’t that poor. Portugal is in excellent form right now with three victories and 13 goals scored in the first three Euro Qualifiers games, or 4.33 goals per game. This club frequently plays games with three or more goals because of their extremely effective offense. There were seven times more than 2.5 goals in the last nine games across all competitions.
