In a rematch of their Champions League quarterfinal matchup from the previous year. The second meeting between Rangers and PSV Eindhoven will take place on Tuesday at Ibrox, with the winner earning the opportunity to participate in the group stage draw.
In the fall, Michael Beale’s team eliminated Servette to take a step toward playing on a continental level, but Sturm Graz fell short against their Dutch opponents.
Rangers vs PSV Eindhoven
Glasgow Rangers had more success on the international stage than in domestic competitions. The Gers were better than FC Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League playoffs while struggling in the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish League Cup.
The third round of the competition saw the entry of both teams. Rangers defeated Servette 3-2 overall, with a 2-1 home victory contributing significantly. Both times, James Tavernier scored goals, including the one that tied the game in the second leg.
PSV defeated Vitesse 1-3 on the road this Saturday, showing excellent confidence and teamwork in every area of the field. This was a great warm-up for the forthcoming match in Scotland. Since the competitive portion of the campaign began, the Eindhoven team has played five games, winning all of them and seeming more than capable in everyone. PSV defeated Sturm Graz with ease after winning the match 7-2 overall.
Rangers defeated Greenock Morton 2-1 at home on Saturday, extending their unbeaten streak in all competitions to four games. PSV, meanwhile, has had a successful start to the 2023–24 season after defeating Vitesse 3–1 in the Eredivisie on Saturday.
It’s interesting to note that both clubs faced off in the playoffs the season before. PSV will try to revenge their loss to Rangers, who won by a razor-thin margin of 3-2 to advance to the group stage.
Verdict
Rangers have scored in each of their last 29 home games in all competitions and have scored nine goals in their last four games. The previous time they failed to score at home was in the group stages of the Champions League against Napoli last year, losing 3-0. They did find Europe to be a step too far, losing to both Liverpool and Ajax at this venue.
The visitors to win with goals at both ends here seem like a good bet given that PSV has won eight of their past ten away games but has also given up in six of those contests. By the looks of things, PSV is likely to seal a win here. Their decent form in the h2h tradition with a vital away form are the main reasons to back them here.
At home, the Gers are pretty combative. They have been doing this for the previous few years to make the most significant use of the home-field advantage. We do not doubt that the Scottish team will launch an immediate offensive. We anticipate goals in this match because PSV loves to impose their tempo wherever they go, and Bosz’s team is offensively focused.
