The defending champions, Manchester City, welcome Nottingham Forest to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon as they look to keep their perfect start in the Premier League.
The visitors are now ranked eighth in the table after earning seven points in their last four Premier League games, while the hosts are comfortably atop the standings.
Manchester City vs Nottingham Forest
Although it hasn’t been easy, Manchester City has won both of its games this week. They were down to Red Star Belgrade and West Ham United but came back to win. So far in their last seven league and cup games, they have won each one, with one coming after a penalty shootout in the European Super Cup.
With 14 goals in five Premier League games, City’s scoring has once again been prolific. Having already scored seven league goals, Haaland is poised for another fantastic scoring season. Despite an increasing injury list, it appears that they will have another successful season as only three goals have been conceded. The Citizens have won their previous 12 Premier League games at the Etihad Stadium thanks to their home form.
Nottingham Forest has started the new season off steadily. If they had maintained the quick-fire 2-0 lead they grabbed at Old Trafford, it would have been an even better game. After being defeated by Arsenal, they went on to lose that game 3-2, their second away loss of the year.
At least they managed to defeat Chelsea 1-0, their second away Premier League victory since joining the top division last year. On Monday, they overcame a deficit to tie Burnley at home. Last year, they were held to a 1-1 draw at the City Ground despite losing 6-0 to them at the Etihad.
Verdict
Nottingham will try to make a splash this Saturday, but their chances are almost minimal, given the possibility that City will be worn out after their midweek European match. Tricky Trees have displayed exceptional offensive prowess, scoring in each of the first five matches, including trips to Premier League powerhouses Arsenal (1-2), Manchester United (2-3), and Chelsea (1-0). They will be confident that they can get past Ederson’s defense because he has gone four games without keeping a clean sheet.
Although City destroyed them 6-0 during their previous visit to the Etihad Stadium, we don’t anticipate them to fare any better this time. We predict an aggressive game with at least three goals and a home win even if they manage to light up the scoreboard because stopping City’s merciless onslaught is virtually impossible.
Erling Haaland was unable to score against Red Star, but he already has seven league goals to his name. On Saturday against Forest, the unstoppable Norwegian can increase that total.
