The Parc des Princes is the venue for the resumption of Ligue 1 football on Friday evening, as Paris Saint-Germain welcomes Monaco to the capital for an intriguing contest. Luis Enrique’s side rose to their rightful place at the summit of the rankings by defeating Reims 3-0 last time out, while Adi Hutter’s troops were held to a 0-0 draw by Le Havre a fortnight ago.
Paris Saint-Germain vs Monaco
After the international break, Ligue 1 football will resume on Friday at the Parc des Princes when Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) hosts AS Monaco. After defeating Reims 3-0 in their most recent game, PSG moved to the top of the Ligue 1 standings. In the Champions League match at the San Siro, Kylian Mbappe’s outstanding hat-trick enabled his team to overcome a 2-1 deficit against AC Milan.
It was Mbappe’s eighth hat-trick in Ligue 1, and he will lead PSG once more this weekend as they look to maintain their position at the top of the standings. Nice, who are now second in the league, are trailing them by just one point. PSG will want to keep ahead of their opponents, Monaco, on Friday, who are now three points behind them, as they have already won five straight Ligue 1 games.
Monaco was coming off a goalless draw with Le Havre heading into the international break. It was not without drama, though, as in the final moments of the game, Le Havre was given a penalty, forcing Adi Hutter’s team to orchestrate a fortunate escape.
Philipp Kohn easily defeated Samuel Grandsir’s feeble attempt, ensuring that the spoils were divided at the end of the evening. At the moment, Monaco leads fourth-place Lille by three points.
Verdict
In recent weeks, Paris Saint-Germain has scored goals with ease. Prior to the international break, Les Bleus had won their previous five league games with a total of three goals scored.
Monaco has significant defensive issues despite being the second-best goal-scoring team in this division. In their 12 games thus far, the Red & Whites have only kept a clean sheet three times, and in an equal number of those games, fewer than 2.5 goals have been scored.
In four of their previous five league home games and every one of their previous five road games in France’s top flight, PSG has scored three goals or more. Investing in PSG to score a few goals and secure a fourth 3-0 victory in five games seems like a wise move, since Monaco has let up ten goals in their last six away games this season.
The clear winner in the anytime goalscorer market is Kylian Mbappe. With 15 goals in 16 club games this season, the attacker from France has been in scorching form. He currently has 13 goals in his past nine matches for club and country. During the international break, he scored a hat-trick and assisted two more in France’s crushing of Gibraltar.
