Betting Tips
Wolverhampton and Chelsea will square off in the West Midlands on Sunday at noon in Molineux for just the second-ever Christmas Eve Premier League match. In their most recent match, West Ham United destroyed Gary O’Neil’s club 3-0, and the Blues are back in the top division after making it to the FA Cup semifinals.
Wolverhampton vs Chelsea
Matchday 18 of the English Premier League features just one game on Sunday: Wolves, in 13th place, hosting Chelsea, in 10th place. In their most recent game, Wolverhampton lost 3-0 to West Ham due to their recent poor performance. Gary O’Neil’s club is now three points behind their opponents and out of the top half due to the loss.
Wolves’ problems this season have mostly occurred away from home, as they have a dismal 2-1-6 record. With a good 3-3-2 record at the Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton has avoided defeat in six of their eight games played there. The hosts have also gone six games without a loss in front of the home crowd; their most recent game here resulted in a 1-1 tie with Forest.
Chelsea recently emerged from an intense midweek penalty shootout match against Newcastle in the quarterfinals of the EFL Cup. The Blues eventually prevailed in the match, finishing 1-1, and moved on to the semi-finals. Chelsea is gaining some momentum with the win after defeating Sheffield United 2-0 at home in the previous game.
Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea team is currently 11 points ahead of Spurs in fifth place, meaning he is still well outside of the top five. The visitors have lost their previous three games in a row and given up eight goals, showing how difficult it has been for them to obtain results away from Stamford Bridge lately.
Verdict
Under Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea has improved this season, but they haven’t yet found their footing in the Premier League. Players who can be productive on their day, such as Cole Palmer and Raheem Sterling, will need to step up in this match.
With a strong roster at their disposal, Wolverhampton Wanderers are more than capable of pulling off an upset on any given day. This season, the hosts have been playing well, and this Saturday, they could keep Chelsea to a draw.
Even though the two teams’ recent home and away records might only suggest a Wolves victory, it is prudent to account for the possibility of a draw as a precaution.
Three of the last five encounters between these teams have ended in draws, as have three of the home team’s six-game winning streak.
The two teams, who appear to be evenly matched and are separated by just three points in the Premier League table, could cancel each other out on Christmas Eve if they score in four of Chelsea’s last five away games and six of Wolves’ last seven at Molineux.
