We’ll see if Fulham can duplicate their highly successful campaign from last year, when they placed a high 10th, without one of their all-time leading goal scorers.
Only six months ago, Fulham defeated Chelsea 2-1 at Craven Cottage as Willian visited his old team. A few weeks later, Silva’s team also came away from Stamford Bridge with a point in a goalless draw. Now, Fulham and Chelsea are once again rivals in West London.
Verdict
Even though the current Chelsea roster is much more understated than the one before it, this club may find success with it. With a combined four goals scored in the first preseason games, new attacking additions Nicolas Jackson and Christian Nkunku made an impression on their new management. Last season, the Blues had trouble playing their rivals, but things seem different this year. Of course, it’s still early, but Jackson seems to have had an immediate impact.
Mykhailo Mudryk, a highly compensated Ukrainian who had a difficult time adjusting last season, might join them in the onslaught. This current Chelsea club is really talented, and that was evident in this game against an undermanned Fulham.
Although Fulham managed to escape losing in both of their Premier League matches against Chelsea last season, a string of injuries and a glaring lack of depth should prove costly for Silva’s team in Maryland.
Even if Chelsea’s team is not particularly well-equipped in terms of fitness, Pochettino’s attackers have bonded well in the United States and should aid their team to a comfortable victory.
