Daily Football Predictions: Fresh start for Chelsea as they host Liverpool

Betting Tips

On Sunday afternoon at Stamford Bridge, Mauricio Pochettino will take charge of Chelsea for the first time in a thrilling Premier League match against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

The two English juggernauts will try to forget about their lackluster top-flight performances from the previous campaign and establish a more formidable bid for at least a top-four finish this time around.

Chelsea vs Liverpool

On the first weekend of the new season, Jurgen Klopp leads his Liverpool team to Stamford Bridge. Last season, the Reds finished fifth in the Premier League and, for just the second time under Klopp, were unable to advance to the Champions League. Chelsea, on the other hand, lost ground and ended up in a pitiful 12th place, but it aims to significantly improve under new manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Axel Disasi, Nicolas Jackson, and Christopher Nkunku have all joined Pochettino’s team this summer, while Alexis MacAllister and Dominik Szoboszlai have joined Liverpool. Moises Caicedo is also a transfer target for Chelsea and Liverpool, with the midfielder favoring a move to West London despite Brighton accepting a £111 million offer from the Anfield club.

The home team has performed admirably during the preseason, scoring 13 goals in five games and winning three of them. They did, however, draw against Newcastle and Dortmund, and it will take some time to heal the wounds from the previous campaign.

Only one of Chelsea’s final 12 league games saw them win, and they lost seven of them. Chelsea will now open the season against a Liverpool team that appeared to be at its best toward the conclusion of the previous year.

Liverpool had a dismal prior campaign as well, coming in fifth place. Liverpool had a poor first half of the season. They performed better later, but it was too late to go up and secure a Champions League spot. Liverpool had a 3-1-1 record in the preseason. They defeated Darmstadt 3-1 in the prior game. It was a highly encouraging encounter for Jurgen Klopp’s team prior to the commencement of the championship because the English team possessed 65% of the ball and 24 shots on goal.

Verdict

Liverpool’s defense has looked suspect over the summer, and they remain a player or two short of a complete squad, while it’s up front where the Blues are underpowered.

Both teams to score is a noteworthy wager on Sunday after four of their five summer games have included goals at both ends, with Liverpool scoring 18 goals while giving up 11, respectively. Given Liverpool’s strong postseason play and prolific preseason, I predict they will win on Sunday in a high-scoring contest. All of their preseason games have seen them score at least three goals, but three of them have also seen them give up two or more goals.

Jurgen Klopp’s men were dismal in the first half of the campaign but ended on a high, going unbeaten in their final 11 league games and winning seven of them.

They scored 27 goals in that run but conceded 14 at the other end, and pre-season has done little to dispel concerns over their defensive frailties.
