In their Group A matchup against Galatasaray on Wednesday, Manchester United travels to Rams Park in Istanbul, needing to win to have any hope of advancing to the Champions League knockout stages. With just three points under their belt, the Red Devils remain at the bottom of the section, while their opponents are only one point and one spot ahead of them going into the penultimate game week.

On Wednesday night in Istanbul, Galatasaray, home of Premier League team Manchester United, will play a match between two UEFA Champions League Group A teams that are still in the running to go to the knockout stages.
With eleven wins out of their first thirteen games, Galatasaray has gotten off to a very strong start in the domestic league. They are only one goal behind leaders Fenerbahçe. The Lions come into this encounter fresh off two losses to Bayern on match days three and four in the Champions League. Thus, they haven’t had much cause for celebration thus far. Nonetheless, their supporters will never forget their victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Matchday 2.
Manchester United, currently at the bottom of Group A of the Champions League, will visit Galatasaray, currently ranked third. The Red Devils trail FC Copenhagen, who are in second place, by one point. Their lone point thus far came from a 1-0 victory over the Danes at home. They have lost all three of their remaining games, one against each of the other three teams in the group.
This involves a defeat away to leaders Bayern Munich, whom Manchester United will play in their last group match. They wouldn’t be able to go to the knockout stages if they lost in Turkey. If Copenhagen managed to defeat Bayern on the road, they would even lose out on a spot in the Europa League. They defeated Everton 3-0 away on Sunday.
Verdict
Galatasaray assembled a strong lineup in the summer after making several changes to their attack line. Mauro Icardi has been connected to a January transfer because of his continued danger. Their options were further increased by adding Wilfried Zaha on a free transfer, and the former Crystal Palace winger is playing well before his old team visits. Galatasaray should provide a threat moving forward, but United might also score a few goals in this game. The Red Devils have scored at least twice in three of their four games, while the hosts have given up twice in each of their group games thus far.
Although Manchester United aren’t doing well in Group A, at least they know what to expect going into this trip to Istanbul.
For Ten Hag’s team, it basically comes down to winning or losing on Wednesday. A draw would most likely not be sufficient because United have to play Bayern Munich in two weeks. In this match, Galatasaray would be heavy favorites to finish in second place if the scores were tied. Although it’s unlikely to be quite as cozy here, United’s recent success will have given the team more confidence. Ten Hag’s team possesses sufficient quality to defeat Galatasaray. The secret will be to remain composed.
