Juventus will look to momentarily return to the top of Serie A when they welcome Napoli to the Allianz Stadium on Friday night.
Massimiliano Allegri’s side has been trading blows with current leaders Inter Milan, as the runaway top two are separated by just two points.
Juventus vs Napoli
If Juventus defeats fifth-place Napoli at home, they will take the lead. Juventus starts the game two points behind leaders Inter in second place. This season, they have only lost one and won ten of their fourteen league games. September’s away match against Sassuolo was the one loss. The Old Lady has won nine league games in a row since that time.
With five victories and two draws at home, they are still undefeated. Before their most recent 1-1 tie with leaders Inter, Juventus had won five straight games, even though they were ahead in that top-of-the-table match. In their past ten league home games, Juventus have only suffered one defeat. In Serie A, Juventus has only let up four goals at home thus far this year.
Retaining the Serie A championship they won the previous season is difficult for Napoli. They were 11 points behind the leaders at the start of this series of games. They can climb into the top four if they bring home a point from their trip to Juventus. The Blues are on their third coach of the year and have only won seven league games this season.
Their recent record is not fantastic going into this match; they have lost three of their past four games across all competitions. They have lost two of their past three Serie A games, but they were both at home. With five wins and two draws, the Donkeys are unbeaten on the road in Serie A.
Verdict
With just one loss in 14 games this season, Juventus has been outstanding. They are keeping up with Inter despite not being as impressive (offensively) as them. Their lone defeat came at the hands of Sassuolo, as their defense completely broke down and let four goals in! However, it appears that the club learned from the setback as they improved their defense, giving up just three goals in the next nine games. Juventus has been playing excellently lately, taking home six of the last seven games. Their lone defeat (1:1) came against Inter, who were leading the league.
It was clear from Napoli’s opening games of the season that the team was not the same without coach Spalletti. Rudi Garcia, his replacement, attempted to carry on with a similar tactical strategy, but the winning mentality from the previous campaign was absent, and the players’ connection with the coach was reportedly not the best, according to the Italian media.
By bringing in Walter Mazzarri in place of the outgoing coach, the team attempted to turn around the dismal performance, but very little has changed. Napoli is now traveling to Turin following arguably the worst run of games since the start of the campaign, having dropped three of their previous four encounters and given up nine goals, or 2.25 goals per game.
