When LASK Linz visits Anfield on Thursday for their Group E match, Liverpool can, at the very least, guarantee their advancement to the Europa League knockout phase playoffs.
The Merseyside encounter will put best against worst because the Austrian team has just three points and is ranked bottom in the section, while the Reds lead the way with nine points.

Liverpool’s 1-1 tie with Manchester City over the weekend was a fantastic result. They became the first team of the year to attend a Premier League match at the Etihad and come away with a point. Liverpool’s lone victory in their previous four games came at home against Brentford, a 3-0 victory.
The remaining three games took place away from home, which is still a situation in which Liverpool is rather exposed. However, things are different at Anfield, as this Europa League group demonstrates. They won 2-0 over USG, their final group matchup, and 5-1 against Toulouse. If Liverpool wins this game, they will advance to the next round.
If Toulouse lost to USG, they would advance to the final 16 and win the group. A draw will do for USG’s advancement if Toulouse is not defeated.
LASK has only three points after four games in the group. They are only one point behind USG in third place, but four behind Toulouse in second. There’s still a chance to go to the Europa League, get into the knockout stages, and move up a spot. If USG were to defeat Toulouse, their European season would come to an end, and losing at Anfield would put an end to those latter hopes.
LASK’s four group games have resulted in three losses. The other was a 3-0 victory over USG at home. The Austrians triumphed over the weekend and are currently third in their home league. They have not won any of their last three away Europa League games.
Verdict
Liverpool will look to rebound with a win on Thursday, possibly securing the top spot in Group E, after suffering an unexpected loss in Toulouse during game week three of the Europa League group stages.
The Reds should be able to defend their favoritism here, even though a clean sheet could be out of reach after that setback with a convincing win over Brentford and a point at the Etihad on either side of the international break.
In the Europa League this season, Jurgen Klopp’s team has only managed one clean sheet and has given up in four of their previous five games across all competitions. Meanwhile, the Austrian visitors have scored goals in three of their four group-stage matches.
Liverpool won the rematch in Linz 3-1 in September, and a repeat performance would not be out of the question. As such, betting on Liverpool to win or both teams to score is an excellent option.
