La Liga 2024/25 Preview

Spanish LaLiga Season 2024/25

Week 9 Review

Match week 9 is done and it is time for another international break. Fans are not excited but it is what it is. What they can look forward to, however, is the fact that the upcoming week 10 of the LaLiga EA Sports 2024/25 season holds a lot of entertainment promise.

Week 10 will see Barcelona take on Sevilla, Real Madrid take on Celta Vigo and Girona facing Real Sociedad as these teams continue to work towards their targets for the season. Either of these games could cause a great seismic shift in the current standings.

While we look forward to all of that happening, let us review the best actions from week 9.

Luka Sučić scores Puskás-worthy wonder goal to cap off wonderful weekend in LaLiga

Robert Lewandowski’s hattrick, Raphinha’s assists and Luka Sučić’s wonder goal were the highlights of the just concluded week 9 which precedes the October international break.

The Catalan giants may have stuttered in their run-up to an unbeaten season when they lost surprisingly and unceremoniously to Osasuna in week 6, but they have now picked up 24 points from the 27 on offer so far this season to maintain a firm hold at the top of the table. Their latest three points were secured by league goalscoring leader Lewandowski, who looks like a new signing under Hansi Flick. Captain Raphinha was on hand to provide two assists to take his tally to five in the league, one ahead of their phenomenal youngster Lamine Yamal, who had to be rested in order to manage his fitness.

The rest of the league may have already conceded the league to Barcelona, but certainly not Real Madrid, who are only three points behind their eternal rivals and without the disgrace of a loss this season. Goals from Vinicius Jr and Federico Valverde helped Los Blancos to a victory over Villarreal, in a match that many expected to be a hiccup for the royal whites. Marcelino, Villarreal’s boss, will rue the absence of prolific goalscorer Ayoze Perez after the dropped points at the Santiago Bernabeu in week 9.

El Gran Derbi also happened and it was as brutal as expected. Sevilla came away with the win, which was a great goodbye to a legend of the club and of the game, Jesus Navas, who is set to retire from the club and the sport in December. The win helped Los Nervionenses to climb up the table once more into 12th place as they continue to chase their targets for the season.

And finally, the Puskás goal selection committee will have their first entry for the 2025 edition after Real Sociedad’s Croatian midfielder, Luka Sučić, scored a wonder goal to bring his club back from the brink of a home loss to Atlético De Madrid.

As fans wind down from the frantic pace of club football and hope for no injuries during the international break, we look forward to week 10 and the rest of the LaLiga EA Sports 2024/25 football season.
