In their inaugural Women’s Champions League season, Manchester United Women will face Paris Saint-Germain Women in a second-round qualifying match.
Prior to traveling to the French capital the following week, the Red Devils will have the advantage of playing the first leg at home on Tuesday.
Manchester United Women vs PSG Women
In the second round, when the winners advance to the group stage, both teams received byes. After coming in second place in the 2022–23 Super League, United is making its debut in the Women’s Champions League.
The Red Devils haven’t played in the Champions League before, but they’ve been in excellent form recently and are capable of competing against any team. In ten games, they have eight victories and one loss. Manchester United defeated PSG 1-0 in their lone encounter.
Last season, VfL Wolfsburg eliminated PSG from the competition in the quarterfinals. After placing second to Lyon in the Division 1 Féminine in 2022–23, they are hoping for a better season this time. Despite having made it to the final twice (in 2015 and 2017), PSG has yet to win the Champions League.
Les Parisiennes are in fifth place with six points after three games this season, winning twice and losing once. Prior to their journey to Manchester, they will feel confident as a result of their strong away performance. In their last five away games, they have won four.
Goalkeeper Mary Earps is one of United’s greatest assets. She was the top goalkeeper in the Women’s Super League last season and took home the golden glove at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Ella Toone, an attacking midfielder, is United’s main offensive threat. She has 34 goals to her credit since joining the team in 2018.
PSG, on the other hand, will be eager to avoid losing in Manchester and complete the task in the second leg in Paris. A high-scoring draw is anticipated, though. In the first leg on Tuesday, Man United will be adamant about making their home-field advantage count. However, we believe that PSG will irritate them and hold them to a draw.
