Serie A 2025/26 Season Wrap-up
Inter’s season without doubt
Inter Milan weren’t the favourites to win the 2025/26 Serie A to seal their 21st Scudetto with three games to spare. Then, a week later, Cristian Chivu’s side claimed their tenth Coppa Italia title. This was also their first league and cup double in sixteen years.
Milan’s costly slip
While Inter raced through to seal their title with games to spare, elsewhere, the battle was heightened to the last day. First, the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League spots produced the season’s most dramatic finale with some tears and joy. Milan was the biggest casualty.
Despite putting in an effort that had threatened to battle Inter for the title towards Matchday 20, they slipped away into oblivion and even missed a Champions League slot.
Needing only a point at home against Cagliari in the final match at home, they conceded a 2-1 defeat that ultimately dashed all their top-four hopes and European ambitions.
Simultaneously, who were the season’s revelation, Como stunned Cremonese 4-1 away, and then Roma saw off Verona 2-0 to leapfrog Milan and claim the fourth UCL berth.
Juventus, Milan and the Giants were pushed to next season’s UEFA Europa League ticket after finishing fifth and sixth, respectively. Atalanta finished seventh and got a ticket to the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers.
Como: the season’s standout story
As noted earlier, Como carried the surprise of the season in what was their only second consecutive season in the top flight.
Cesc Fabregas’s recruitment machine continued to defy logic as his troops managed to beat eventual champions Inter, thrashed Torino 6-0 in their biggest ever Serie A win and also managed to reach the Coppa Italia semi-finals.
Verona, Pisa and Cremonese relegated
Hellas Verona recorded Serie A’s longest losing run with five consecutive defeats, but Pisa remained the poorest team, finishing bottom with only 18 points. They had the longest winless run of 17 matches at one stage.
They truly never found their feet after promotion. Cremonese, whose squad included veteran Jamie Vardy, also lasted just one season before returning to Serie B. The two were relegated together with Cremonese, who failed on the penultimate day of the season, as Lecce skipped the rope after a final day 1-0 win over Genoa.
