Betting Predictions
Newcastle United will visit the Emirates on Tuesday night to play Arsenal in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final, hoping to make North London lightning strike again in as many days.
Eddie Howe’s team departed Tottenham Hotspur’s stadium with a 2-1 victory, despite the Gunners only earning a point from a 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday night.
Head-to-Head
In their 173 prior meetings with Newcastle United, Arsenal had a 76-62 lead and 35 draws. Although the Magpies won 1-0 in a Premier League match at St. James’ Park in August, the last seven encounters between the two teams resulted in three wins and one draw.
Team News
Arteta’s substitution of goalscorer Nwaneri at halftime in the Brighton draw raised little alarm because many thought it was due to his late booking for time-wasting. However, at full time, the Arsenal manager confirmed the “really bad” news that the 17-year-old had sustained a muscular injury.
Havertz is also in a battle against time to show his health after missing back-to-back games due to sickness, and while Nwaneri has not yet been ruled out of the first leg, the short turnaround makes him a major concern.
Raheem Sterling, Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Bukayo Saka are still out, but Sterling should be fit for Manchester United’s FA Cup opening this weekend, and Jurrien Timber has returned from a yellow-card suspension.
Fabian Schar and Bruno Guimaraes are serving competition-specific bans for receiving their second yellow cards of the EFL Cup season in the Brentford victory, meaning Newcastle will be without two of their key players for the first leg while a key Arsenal player returns from suspension.
Sven Botman’s forced substitute in the Spurs victory is said to have been due to cramps, although Schar and Guimaraes—the former of whom also served a Premier League ban over the weekend—join Emil Krafth, Nick Pope, Callum Wilson, and Jamaal Lascelles on the list of absentees.
However, it would be a surprise to see the Dutchman make successive starts so soon after his return from an ACL injury, so Lloyd Kelly might fill the Schar void here, while Sean Longstaff and former Gunner Joe Willock will battle to step in for Guimaraes.

Verdict
Tip Draw❌
Reason
Given that Newcastle has successfully defended at the Emirates in the past (see the 0-0 draw in January 2023), Howe might be tempted to take a more cautious tack as Schar and the powerful Guimaraes look on helplessly. When their attacking three is playing so well, the goal-hungry Magpies shouldn’t put every man behind the ball, but Arsenal seldom loses at the Emirates and are still finding ways to score even without Saka. Considering everything, the first leg is sure to end in a low-scoring tie, which would be a preferable outcome for the Magpies prior to the rematch at St. James’ Park on February 5.

Tip: Aleksandra Isak to Scoreâś…
Reason
Isak, who has six goals in his last four games, will lead the Magpies offensive in north London and he could help his side a draw tomorrow for the underdogs. He should have support from the likes of Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes and all three men can help the Magpies produce.
