Liverpool’s two-leg quarterfinal matchup against Atalanta BC, the dominant Italian team, begins on Thursday at Anfield, where they will face the toughest test of their Europa League credentials to yet.
The Reds defeated Sporting Lisbon, whose head coach seemed destined to take over the Merseyside reins for 2024–25, while Gian Piero Gasperini’s team defeated Sparta Prague with an incredible 11 goals in the last 16 to get to the quarterfinals.

Although there are some odds, most bookmakers have Jurgen Klopp’s team as the favorites to win the title, and he would love to end his career with a European victory. To make it to the Dublin final, they are merely a general 4/7.
After dominating the first 45 minutes at Old Trafford, they were guilty of wasting numerous first-half opportunities and ultimately had to settle for a point against Manchester United, which knocked them off the top of the Premier League this past weekend.

With the Bergamo club finishing sixth in Serie A last season, Atalanta appeared well-positioned for another shot at Europe. But Gian Piero Gasperini’s team has dropped its last two games against Serie A’s Cagliari and Coppa Italia’s Fiorentina.
They overcame Sporting Lisbon in the group stages and eliminated the Portuguese team in the final round in Europe.

Verdict
Atalanta suffered their second straight loss this past weekend, but they have scored in six of their previous seven games across all competitions, and they are yet to lose in the Europa League, having scored 15 goals in their first eight matches.
Despite giving up nine goals in their past five games, Liverpool is still very strong at Anfield. I’m betting on the home team to win and both teams to score. This season, Liverpool is performing admirably at Anfield. In their last 11 games played at home, they have won ten of them. However, Atalanta has dropped its last two away games. It seems reasonable to wager on Liverpool winning with a lot of goals for this match.
Fans who have an unyielding passion to fast-paced attacking football might expect fireworks to fly between two outfits, although Atalanta has struggled recently, especially away from their Bergamo home.
Gasperini’s team should be able to score several goals thanks to Liverpool’s defensive weaknesses, but they risk losing the other end of the field to Klopp’s crop, who travel to Italy for the second leg with a sizable lead to defend.
