As the Premier League championship race heats up, Liverpool will welcome Crystal Palace to Anfield on Sunday to reclaim the top spot. With seven top-flight games left this season, the hosts are now behind Arsenal on goal differential following their draw with Manchester United last weekend. Meanwhile, their opponents are currently sitting in 14th place after losing their previous five games.

Liverpool are still nursing their wounds following their humiliating 3-0 home loss to Atalanta in the Europa League on Thursday night. They take on Crystal Palace at Anfield on Sunday (1 p.m. kick-off). It was their first home loss of the season, and considering how expertly the Italians handled Jurgen Klopp’s struggling Reds, it was well deserved.
Anything less than three points today might be the end of the Reds’ title aspirations after their last game ended in a tie against Manchester United. At this moment, it doesn’t seem possible that Arsenal or Manchester City will drop points.
Even though the Reds currently own the greatest home record in the Premier League and have a strong recent record versus Palace, their recent loss to Atalanta and the way it ended will undoubtedly give Liverpool supporters anxiety if they fail to strike early in this important match.
Oliver Glasner, the new manager of Crystal Palace, would have observed how Atalanta destroyed Liverpool on Thursday, but it’s unclear if he can use the same strategy as Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad. Palace’s road record is dismal; of the last 33 points available, they have only managed to pick up five, and none of those encounters have ended in a victory. This season, they have only maintained three clean sheets away from home, and none since their 2-0 victory against Burnley on November 4, 2023. Since that victory against Burnley, they have only once scored more than one goal in a game—a 2-2 tie against Manchester City. But given Liverpool’s defensive shortcomings, the Eagles should feel comfortable scoring at Anfield.

Even if Liverpool hasn’t exactly performed well lately, you can’t undervalue them at Anfield. This season, Klopp’s club has amassed more points at home than any other Premier League team and is unbeaten. At least three goals have been scored in six of the previous seven games played here.
This season, Crystal Palace has among the worst away records in this division. The Eagles have lost seven and drawn four of their previous eleven Premier League away games, going winless. Oliver Glasner’s team will find solace in the fact that they managed to score in eight of those games.
Palace can take advantage of a team that hasn’t kept a clean sheet in eight games across all competitions, and they have a strong scoring record going into this one. This season, the hosts have defeated every team in their eight home games against opponents in the bottom half, but they have only kept three clean sheets throughout that stretch.
