Betting Predictions
Italy will play Belgium on Thursday as League A Group 2 comes to a close, needing one point to guarantee a spot in the UEFA Nations League quarterfinals.
At Stade Roi Baudouin, the Azzurri merely need to prevent their hosts from winning, but for the Belgians, who have only managed four points thus far, it is win or lose.
Head-to-Head
Italy has dominated this matchup with only four losses and 15 victories in the last 24 games. However, the fact that the Belgians prevailed 3-1 in their previous meeting in Brussels nine years ago gives them some hope. Belgium, who had already lost twice to France, received some relief in last month’s rematch in Rome when they drew 2-2 with Italy.
In the first twenty-five minutes, Tedesco’s squad was behind by two goals. They did, however, escape loss because of Lorenzo Pellegrini’s dismissal at the end of the first half.
Even though they held Italy without a victory at the Stadio Olimpico, it was only a small comfort given that they had already lost six straight games against Gli Azzurri in competitive play (D2, L4).
Team News
Even though Romelu Lukaku, the all-time top scorer, returned to the team after withdrawing last month, Belgium’s Italo-German manager Domenico Tedesco will be without several important players this week.
Captain Kevin De Bruyne leads a lengthy list that also includes Thomas Meunier, Jeremy Doku, Charles De Ketelaere, Youri Tielemans, and Malick Fofana. Romeo Lavia and Club Brugge left-back Maxim De Cuyper, who scored a spectacular goal against Italy in October, are also considered doubtful for fitness even though they reported for duty.
Tedesco has substituted Arthur Vermeeren, Killian Sardella, Albert Sambi Lokonga, and Samuel Mbangula, a young player for Juventus, to make up the difference.
Along with long-term absentees Gianluca Scamacca and Giorgio Scalvini, who are not expected to return until 2025, Italy’s injury list also includes Torino midfielder Samuele Ricci and Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori.
Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini has been benched in favor of Manuel Locatelli, who was chosen to replace Ricci. He will battle with Nicolo Rovella of Lazio for a midfield spot, along with Nicolo Barella, Davide Frattesi, and Sandro Tonali.
Mateo Retegui and Moise Kean, who scored a hat-trick for undefeated Fiorentina last week, will compete for Luciano Spalletti’s selection upfront. Spalletti may be hesitant to team them against tough opponents.

Probable Line-Up
Belgium XI:
Casteels; Castagne, Debast, Faes, Theate; Mangala, Onana, Vermeeren; Bakayoko, Lukaku, Trossard
Italy XI:
Donnarumma; Di Lorenzo, Buongiorno, Bastoni; Cambiaso, Barella, Locatelli, Tonali, Dimarco; Raspadori; Retegui
Verdict
Tip Draw❌
Reason
Despite withdrawals and injuries plaguing an unhappy Belgium camp, Romelu Lukaku is all too familiar with his opponents and could save his country once more. Another score draw between these sides is the most likely outcome because Italy would need just one point to advance nevertheless.

Tip: BTTS (YES)❌
Reason
Belgium has to win Thursday’s match because they have only won one of their four games thus far, and I predict they will at least earn a point to maintain their hopes of placing in the top two. The Red Devils have a strong goal-scoring record versus the Italians and have scored in all but one of their last four meetings. In each of the previous three encounters between the two countries, wagers on “BTTS – yes” were successful. Italy has numerous defensive issues as well. Both clubs have scored in each of the last four meetings, while the Blues have lost their last eight games without a clean sheet.
