Betting Predictions
Spain takes on Croatia in the opening game of what promises to be an exciting Group B at this summer’s European Championship on Saturday in Berlin.
Croatia has never advanced past the quarterfinals of this competition, while Spain has won the European Championship three times and advanced to the semifinals of Euro 2020.
Head-to-Head
Ten matches between Spain and Croatia have already occurred, with Spain holding the superior overall record with six victories to Croatia’s three. The last meeting between the two teams happened in the UEFA Nations League final the previous year, which Spain won on penalties following a dull 0-0 draw. On Saturday, neutrals will only be praying for a better game as Croatia will be out for retribution.
Team News
As head coach De la Fuente has kept his cards close to his chest and given away few clues about the starting lineup for this match, there are currently a lot of unknowns in the Spain team. Dani Olmo and Mikel Merino are contenders to start, although Fabian Ruiz and Nico Williams might end up on the bench and feature from the first whistle.
Nacho is expected to start in the midfield position as Aymeric Laporte, an experienced defender, missed practice on Thursday due to a muscle problem. Lamine Yamal, 16, is scheduled to start on the right side for La Roja, making history as the youngest player to take the field at a European Championship.
After helping Real Madrid win both the La Liga and the Champions League, Dani Carvajal will play, however, Alex Grimaldo is most likely to start at left-back for the club. Although there are some doubts about the Croatian starting lineup, Luka Modric, Mateo Kovacic, and Marcelo Brozovic seem certain starters in the midfield.
With eight goals in 31 appearances for his nation, Lovro Majer is also expected to start, perhaps with Andrej Kramaric and Ante Budimir accompanying him in the final third. Ivan Perisic is expected to start on the bench due to his ongoing recovery from a significant knee injury. At the same time, Marin Pongracic is preferred to begin alongside Josip Sutalo in the middle of defense. Josko Gvardiol will face his Manchester City teammate Rodri, and Josip Stanisic of Bayer Leverkusen will occupy a slot on the other side of defense.
Probable Line-Up
Spain XI:
Simon; Carvajal, Le Normand, Laporte, Grimaldo; Rodri, Ruiz; Olmo, Yamal, Williams; Morata
Croatia XI:
Livakovic; Stanisic, Vida, Gvardiol, Sosa; Brozovic, Kovacic, Modric; Kramaric, Petkovic, Perisic
Verdict
Tip: Spain to Winâś…
Reason
Spain and Croatia will understand the importance of claiming the three points here in a tough group that also contains Italy and an improved Albanian outfit. Having won five of the last seven meetings against Croatia, Spain gets the nod for this encounter.

Tip: BTTS (YES)❌
Reason
The data between these two teams suggests goals are far more likely than not in this fixture. The recent form also indicates that both teams are finding the net. Both sides are also far stronger as an attacking threat than they are as a solid defensive unit. With Italy also in Group B, avoiding defeat may be a priority in this game for both teams
