16/03: Daily Predictions: Fulham vs Tottenham

Betting Tips

When the Lilywhites travel to Fulham for a Premier League London derby on Saturday, Tottenham Hotspur might be in fourth position in the Premier League standings by the end of play. Last Saturday, Ange Postecoglou’s team crushed Aston Villa 4-0 to reclaim their Champions League destiny, while the Cottagers lost 2-1 to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Fulham vs Tottenham

On Saturday night, Tottenham Hotspur will visit Craven Cottage to play Fulham. Kickoff is at 5:30 p.m. Out of the 14 home games this season, the home team has won eight, drawn one, and lost five. They are comfortably out of the relegation struggle and well out of the hunt for European spots with 35 points from their 28 games, placing them in 12th place in the league.

It’s reasonable to conclude that this season, the home team’s performance has been patchy. They are the last team to have defeated Manchester United away from Old Trafford, as well as Nottingham Forest and West Ham in back-to-back home victories. But they were defeated by Wolves at Molineux last Saturday.

Only one Tottenham match has seen fewer than 2.5 goals since the team defeated Fulham 2-0 in October of last year (a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on the road in December). Both sides have scored 16 times and there have been 17 instances of over 2.5 goals in those 18 games. With eight wins, two draws, and two losses in their last 12 games, the Londoners are enjoying a successful play run. With a game remaining, they are only two points behind Villa in fourth place after their 4-0 victory over Aston Villa on the road last weekend put them right on the heels of the Villains.

The fact that they have only won once in their last four away games raises some concerns, but given the home team’s strong performance at Craven Cottage, Fulham will undoubtedly have hope of winning this one.

Though Fulham has been playing well lately, they have a terrible record against Spurs going back a few years. Last weekend’s 2-1 setback at Molineux was their second loss in four games.

The last time the Cottagers triumphed at Craven Cottage, was in 2011, when Fulham easily defeated Tottenham 4-0 thanks to two early penalty goals from Danny Murphy. The Cottagers haven’t defeated Tottenham in over 10 years.

Since then, Tottenham has triumphed in 12 of the 15 meetings, so they have every reason to win three more points tonight. A 2-1 accurate score prediction is also appealing. Over the past ten games, Spurs have scored exactly twice, four times, averaging 2.4 goals per game. Conversely, Fulham has lost two of its last four games by a score of 2-1.

Fulham’s home form of late is good and we have seen a fair few goals at Craven Cottage over the last few months. Spurs games have seen goals at both ends and over 2.5 goals far more often than not this season.
