17/02: Daily Predictions: Manchester City vs Chelsea

Betting Tips

Three months after their thrilling 4-4 draw at Stamford Bridge, Manchester City and Chelsea face off at the Etihad Stadium for a Premier League match on Saturday evening. While the Citizens attempt to follow down Liverpool at the summit, their West London adversaries are looking to strengthen their chances of securing a top-seven finish.

Manchester City vs Chelsea

Manchester City enters this game in excellent shape. After winning the FIFA Club World Cup in December, they returned to domestic play and have won every match since. Pep Guardiola’s team has been bolstered by the return of both Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland, with De Bruyne missing the majority of the first half of the season, and the impact on the team has been massive, with City now appearing much more threatening going forward.

Still, as Chelsea demonstrated in the first meeting between the two, City does offer you a chance defensively, and that is one aspect of the team that Pep Guardiola will be hoping Chelsea cannot exploit.

Chelsea’s performances this season have been completely unpredictable. They were outstanding in a 4-4 draw with City earlier this season, as well as their 4-1 victories over Spurs, Aston Villa, and Newcastle. However, Mauricio Pochettino’s side has experienced huge setbacks recently, losing 4-1 to Liverpool and 4-2 at home to Wolves. However, they followed that up with a 3-1 FA Cup triumph at Aston Villa, followed by a similar scoreline victory against London rivals Crystal Palace.

Verdict

Manchester City against Chelsea has usually generated few goals and seen both teams score. However, the last meeting between the two bucked that pattern, culminating in an amazing 4-4 tie in one of the best Premier League games in recent years. It may be unrealistic to expect Chelsea to produce that kind of performance against an in-form City here. Man City against Chelsea has usually generated few goals and seen both teams score. Pochettino’s team has lost five of their past seven league games on the road, which helps to explain why they are battling to qualify for Europe again this season.

However, they have only failed to score once in their last ten road games, a 2-0 loss at Everton in mid-December, and their recent successes should instill some optimism.

Still, it appears that City can flick the switch at the right time, so expect both teams to score, with the champions coming out on top, and a Manchester City home win may be appealing tonight.
