Betting Tips
Manchester United will travel south to face Luton Town at their tiny Kenilworth Road stadium on Sunday afternoon, looking for their fifth consecutive victory in all competitions. The Hatters’ most recent Premier League match resulted in a surprising 3-1 home loss to Sheffield United, but the Red Devils’ Champions League campaign gained traction with a 2-1 victory against Aston Villa.
Luton Town vs Manchester United
Luton’s defeat last weekend dealt the Hatters a significant setback. With Everton losing, a win would have taken them four points ahead of the Toffees, allowing them to leapfrog Nottingham Forest in the table. However, the 3-1 setback brought an end to the team’s three-game league unbeaten streak.
The Hatters have won only one of their previous five games, and their home record is the third poorest in the division, with 11 points. The Hatters have lost three of their previous five league home games, which will alarm manager Rob Edwards as he looks to maintain his team in the top tier.
After struggling on the road for much of the season, Manchester United has won their past two Premier League away games, and in dramatic fashion. Kobie Mainoo’s 97th-minute strike gave the Red Devils a 4-3 victory over Wolves, while Scott McTominay’s late header won the game at Aston Villa last week.
Both of those victories, against teams who have usually been difficult to beat at home, will have given United great confidence going into this game. That victory put United five points behind Villa and six behind fourth-place Spurs in the table.
Verdict
The hosts have lost five of their six meetings with the top six heading into the weekend, with three of those losses occurring at home. The Hatters have lost seven of their 12 home games this season, and it’s difficult to imagine them matching a United side coming off one of their most impressive victories of the season.
Erik ten Hag has won all nine of his Premier League games against newly promoted clubs, while the Red Devils have won 11 consecutive matches with promoted opponents. Given their strong record against teams toward the bottom of the table, United should win this match.
Rasmus Hojlund has scored in five consecutive games after breaking his duck against Aston Villa on Boxing Day. He scored in each of his last five league games. The forward is looking much more involved in that stretch, with two assists, and given his fantastic form, he’s a good bet to score against Luton.
Luton has scored nine goals in their last three outings. Also, all three games had more than 3.5 goals. Manchester United, on the other side, has scored 15 goals in its last five games. Over 3.5 goals should be a good option for this match.
