19/02: Daily Predictions: Everton vs Crystal Palace

Betting Tips

Following a stressful and distressing few days, Crystal Palace will return to Premier League play on Monday evening, when Everton welcomes their capital opponents at Goodison Park. Last Saturday, Sean Dyche’s team were beaten 2-0 by Manchester City, two days before the Eagles were defeated 3-1 by London rivals Chelsea at Selhurst Park.

Everton vs Crystal Palace

Everton hasn’t won in their last three home games, yet only one of those games ended in defeat. However, points are insufficient to lift the Toffees out of the drop zone right now, with that 10-point deduction hurting them hard.

Manager Sean Dyche has served his touchline punishment and will return to the dugout for this game against a team the Toffees have a strong recent record against. On Monday night, Everton and Palace had the third and fourth poorest goalscoring records in the division, with 26 and 27 goals scored, respectively.

The news that Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson fell sick during training for this game last week will have come as a shock to the club. The former England manager was due to be fired last week, but he may now have to step aside to focus on his health and recovery as he stays stable in hospital.

Coming into this game, Palace had lost three of their previous four Premier League games, and unhappy Eagles fans had been protesting at recent games about the club’s lack of leadership as well as some dubious managerial decisions. Ray Lewington is expected to take over first-team duties on Monday, with former Eintracht Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner scheduled to take over following the game.

Verdict

The Toffees are unbeaten in their past six encounters with the south London club, three of which have occurred this season, after defeating Palace 3-2 in the league in November and knocking them out of the FA Cup in the third round after a replay.

Everton’s most recent 1-0 success over the Eagles at Goodison Park in January is their lone win in 11 meetings across all competitions, but they have drawn two of their previous three and ran Manchester City close last weekend before losing 2-0.

Palace’s form is likewise terrible, with only three wins in their previous 17 league games, putting them in danger of relegation, and the pressure is mounting on manager Roy Hodgson, who may not be in the dugout for Monday’s encounter.

To add to the despair, the Eagles have struggled in each of their previous four away games, allowing an alarming nine goals in their most recent two league trips, losing 0-5 to Arsenal and 1-4 at Brighton’s Amex Stadium. Furthermore, Goodison Park isn’t exactly a hospitable environment for Crystal Palace as they want to get back on track, therefore, we’re betting on the hosts to win in the end.
