Betting Predictions
August 19 marks the long-awaited return of Premier League Monday night football, as Tottenham Hotspur challenges Leicester City, still without Championship-winning coach Enzo Maresca, to prove they belong in the top four. Spurs, on the other hand, have high expectations after finishing so close to the top four last season.
Head-to-Head
Nine of the last thirteen Premier League meetings between Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City have resulted in victories for Spurs; however, it’s important to remember that the Foxes defeated Spurs 4-1 when they last traveled to the King Power in February 2023, with a certain James Madison among the Foxes’ goal scorers.
Of all Premier League matches played thirty or more times, the average goals scored per game is highest between Leicester and Tottenham (3.8 – 128 goals in 34 games); there have been 28 goals scored in the last five meetings alone (5.6 goals per game). Spurs have only failed to score in one of their seventeen Premier League away encounters with Leicester, a 3-0 loss at Filbert Street in September 1997.
Team News
In the preseason, Tottenham manager GĂ©rard Postecoglou has been enforcing strict rules. Yves Bissouma, a midfield player, has been suspended for Monday’s match after the Mali international took a video of himself consuming laughing gas.
Richarlison (calf) and Fraser Forster (foot) remain on the touch-and-go list. Still, Dominic Solanke, a ÂŁ65 million addition, has moved Richarlison down the ladder and should make his full Lilywhites debut on Monday night. Since Steven Bergwijn in 2020, no Tottenham rookie has scored on their first Premier League game for the team. Meanwhile, veteran captain Son Heung-min has nine goals and four assists in 13 direct involvements from 14 prior encounters with Leicester.
To continue with the attacking theme, Patson Daka’s bad ankle injury from the loss to Lens has required surgery, meaning he will miss several months of action. This is a devastating blow for Leicester. In addition to Conor Coady (hamstring) missing out, Jamie Vardy (who tormented Big Six teams in his Premier League prime) is still recovering from a pre-season injury, and Luke Thomas will need to pass a last-minute fitness test.
When Daka and Vardy are out, Leicester should look to Tom Cannon or Stephy Mavididi to cover the top spot, with Harry Winks lining up in the midfield against his former team.
Probable Line-Up
Leicester City XI:
Hermansen; Pereira, Faes, Vestergaard, Justin; Winks, Ndidi, Soumare; Reid, Mavididi, Fatawu
Tottenham Hotspur XI:
Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Sarr, Bentancur; Kulusevski, Maddison, Son; Solanke.
Verdict
Tip Tottenham Hotspur to Win❌
Reason
Those who are betting on Tottenham to keep a clean sheet come kickoff should be smiling because Leicester has lost two of their main goal threats and has not scored in their last three preseason games.
Although Postecoglou’s team has a penchant for goals, the Lilywhites weren’t exactly strong at the back during the preseason either. As such, they should give their hosts a rough welcome back to the Premier League.

Tip: BTTS (YES)âś…
Reason
Solanke, who was sensational last season for Bournemouth, has signed with Tottenham and will try to repeat that for the Lillywhites. Leicester City, on the other hand, is a fierce team that is capable of scoring a goal or two. Therefore, there is a good chance that both sides will score.
