23/03: Daily Predictions: England vs Brazil

Betting Tips

On Saturday night, England and Brazil will engage in a tantalizing friendly match under the brilliant lights of Wembley for the first time since 2024. In Dorival Junior’s first game as head coach, South American opponents want to break a disheartening run of losses for Gareth Southgate’s team as they ramp up preparations for Euro 2024.

England vs Brazil

England enters the match against Brazil in strong shape. Their lone loss in 16 games came against France in the World Cup quarterfinals in December 2022, going down 2-1. During that run of games, they have defeated Italy both at home and away (2-1 in Rome and 3-1 at Wembley), drawn with Germany, and defeated Scotland 3-1 on the road at Hampden Park.

But the Three Lions’ performances in their two previous games—a 2-0 victory over Malta and a 1-1 away tie against North Macedonia—left many fans dissatisfied with what they saw to be woefully inadequate play. There will be lots on the line for players trying to make the squad, as Gareth Southgate will have an opportunity to prepare his team for the Euro 2024 Finals this summer with these two matches against Brazil and Belgium.

Although England has played well overall, Brazil has played incredibly poorly since the World Cup save for the last two games. During Pedro Diniz’s managerial stint, they were defeated by Senegal and Morocco in friendly matches after losing to Croatia in the World Cup, and they only won two, drew one, and lost three of their World Cup qualifying matches.

This is Dorival Junior’s first opportunity to select a team and see his team play after their 1-0 home loss to Argentina back in November. He was named the official manager of the national team in January 2024. Only Guinea, Bolivia, and Peru have Brazil defeated in 2023; hence, they will need to significantly improve both in order to qualify for the World Cup and for this summer’s Copa America in the United States.

Verdict

After the Selecao’s defeats in their most recent three World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay, Colombia, and Argentina—by a combined score of 1-0—Fernando Diniz was fired, and Dorival Junior assumed leadership for the first time.

As the club’s backbone from the previous season—Alisson, Casemiro, and Neymar—he has a difficult assignment ahead of him.

Due to Harry Kane’s ankle injury, Ollie Watkins or Ivan Taylor could have an opportunity to shine. There are spots for Germany up for grabs, there should be no shortage of players trying to make an impression. England should win because they have won four of their past five home games.
