Betting Predictions
Barcelona will try to keep up their perfect start to the league campaign when they host Getafe on Wednesday night.
The Azulones are wallowing in the bottom three, while the Blaugrana lead the standings by four points.
Head-to-Head
Recently, this matchup has resulted in multiple goalless draws; three of the previous five meetings between Barcelona and Getafe have ended in a draw. Beyond that, Getafe has not defeated Barcelona in their previous seven meetings, with the visitors’ most recent victory over Barcelona occurring in 2020.
Getafe is hoping to make history on Wednesday as they have never defeated Barcelona on the road. With four ties and two losses from their six games this season, Getafe is one of just two teams in La Liga without a victory. Barcelona has dominated all six La Liga games thus far, most recently defeating Villarreal 5-1 on the road.
Team News
Barcelona has declared Ter Stegen had surgery after rupturing the patella tendon in his right knee, and he is now starting the protracted healing process.
Inaki Pena substituted the German during injury time in the first half of the match against Villarreal. The 25-year-old is now expected to start the 2024–25 campaign.
In addition to Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen, Marc Bernal, Gavi, Frenkie de Jong, Dani Olmo, and Fermin Lopez, Ter Stegen has joined a long list of injured players.
Ferran Torres will rejoin the team after serving a one-match penalty, while Flick is expected to reinstate Pau Cubarsi, Alejandro Balde, and Marc Casado after choosing to rotate his team over the weekend.
Lewandowski, who will still start at the front of the line, is aiming to break the record he shared with Jan Urban for the most goals scored by a Polish player in La Liga (48).
Nabil Aberdin, the defender who has been forced to miss the last three games owing to injury, will need to be evaluated by the visitors in the interim.
Alvaro Rodriguez, a former attacker for Real Madrid, is still sidelined as he awaits his Getafe debut due to an ankle problem. Both Alex Sola and Carles Perez, who came on as substitutes in Sunday’s derby match, are vying for starting positions.
Mayoral has appeared off the bench in the last two matches, and Getafe’s main marksman could be presented with his first start since his return from a long injury layoff.
Probable Line-Up
Barcelona XI:
Pena; Kounde, Cubarsi, Martinez, Balde; Casado, Pedri; Yamal, Raphinha, Torres; Lewandowski
Getafe XI:
Soria; Iglesias, Djene, Berrocal, Alderete, Rico; Perez, Uche, Milla, Sola; Mayoral
Verdict
Tip Barcelona to Winâś…
Reason
This is a match between two teams who have had very contrasting starts to the season so it is no surprise that Barcelona are heavy favourites on Wednesday. Getafe’s strong defense makes them a difficult team to beat, but given that Barcelona has scored 16 goals in their last three league games, we believe their defense will find it difficult to contain the attacking prowess of the home team.
