Verdict
Since winning the World Cup, Lionel Scaloni’s team has been on a roll, giving up only two goals in 11 games. When they lost 2-0 to Uruguay in November, they gave up both of those goals. Apart from that, Argentina emerged victorious in all ten games, keeping a clean sheet. Three of Costa Rica’s last five games have ended in losses, with their two victories coming against lower-tier opponents El Salvador and Honduras. They had lost three of their last five international friendlies, so even in the friendlies, they didn’t exactly show signs of improvement.
Argentina is in the middle of an extended purple patch, winning matches with ease. They have won ten of their last 11 matches without conceding a goal. Costa Rica could lay claim to some decent form, having chalked up a win over Honduras. Yet, Argentina is going to have a tougher assignment, and they are likely to struggle to even get on the board.
