Naturally, Arteta is not the only team without a key defensive player; Liverpool’s finest player, Alisson Becker, is still sidelined due to a thigh injury, though Caoimhin Kelleher earned his spot in midweek by making a series of excellent saves to keep Leipzig out.
Diogo Jota (abdominal) and Harvey Elliott (foot) join Alisson in the infirmary; the latter’s absence ensures Darwin Nunez will start up front again, while Federico Chiesa and Conor Bradley are both doubtful.
Jones’s victory over Chelsea shouldn’t be enough to force Slot to alter the established midfield order of Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, and a revitalized Ryan Gravenberch. Slot has a better kind of problem on the left flank, where Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo are both fighting for a start.
