They can only advance in the competition if they beat Bayern Munich at Old Trafford and hope for a draw in the other group match. Verdict

But those outcomes are masking United’s true problems. In addition to experiencing yet another collapse in their 3-3 draw with Galatasaray on Wednesday, their league results don’t look as good as they do. Despite only winning eight of their thirteen games, they all came against clubs in the lower part of the standings.
The form in which United has been on the road lately—winning at Fulham and all three of the current bottom three—should not be continued this week. The visitors should easily win again after losing all four of their encounters with top-half teams this season. Newcastle has been impressive at home. They should build on their 3-0 victory at Old Trafford last month.
Manchester United have managed to get consistent results on the road so far this season, with four wins from six away matches. However, their underlying metrics are far from impressive and point to a team that is likely overachieving and could be in for some regression. Newcastle are in the opposite situation as their underlying numbers are among the best in the Premier League. Combined with their stellar home form, we see this one finishing in three points for the Magpies.
